Sharon Baptist Partners with Bronx Community College to provide college students with childhood education experience

Participants who complete 17 week program will receive credentials and credits to further their education

Sharon Baptist Head Start, an early childhood education and social services center, announced their partnership with Bronx Community College’s (BCC) Teacher Education Career PATH Program (TECPP) to provide the college student interns with advanced early childhood education learning experience. The program is based on Sharon Baptist’s creative curriculum design and will render free professional development training leading to a Child Development Associate (CDA). Credentials will be given to all participants who complete the 17 week program, to help them increase their chances of getting employment.

“Our goal is to help college students acquire work experience that will give them better employment opportunities in the future. Child care and social service are serious responsibilities that ensure the future generation are properly raised. Our curriculum is known to be one of the best, and we hope to churn out as much expert teachers as possible,” said Barbara Manners, Executive Director of Sharon Baptist Head Start.

The goal of the program is to assist individuals who are underemployed, unemployed or at risk of losing their jobs, due to the lack of job experience, the opportunity to have a life changing credentials. Acceptance into the program means participants will earn credits which they can then use to matriculate into Bronx Community College in early childhood education, certificate and degree program.

“I participated in last year’s program, and I must say that the experience I gained is in no measure mere. Some of the interns are parents of children in the program. We were given the privilege to access enhanced skills development, and I can tell you that some of the interns got jobs as assistant teachers,” said Kim L, a participant.
