Ross Norman selected as Top CEO of the Year for 2017 by the International Association of Top Professionals (IAOTP).

QUEENSLAND, AUSTRALIA – 6/7/2017 — Ross Norman, Chief Executive Officer of Palm Island Aboriginal Shire Council has been selected as “Top CEO of the Year” for 2017 by the International Association of Top Professionals (IAOTP).

While inclusion with the International Association of Top Professionals is an honor in itself, only a few members in each discipline are chosen for this distinction. These special honorees are distinguished based on their professional accomplishments, academic achievements, leadership abilities, longevity in the field, other affiliations and contributions to their communities.  All honorees are invited to attend the IAOTP’s annual award gala at the end of this year for a night to honor their achievements.

With over 3 decades of professional experience in the legal field and in the business world Mr. Norman has certainly proven himself as an accomplished professional and expert in the field.  He has demonstrated success not only as an attorney but has been a leader in Local Government and Administration.  Mr. Norman has a very impressive repertoire of prior roles.  During his 22 years of employment with the Department of Justice and Attorney-General, he held positions as Clerk of the Court and Acting Stipendiary Magistrate.  Upon leaving the Department, he entered private practice as a lawyer specializing in personal injuries, worker’s compensation, family law, commercial litigation and criminal law. From 1996 until 2006 he was the Principal Solicitor of the Cape York Legal Service.  In 2006 he was the CEO of Mapoon Aboriginal Shire Council, and in 2011 became CEO of Palm Island Aboriginal Shire Council.  His expertise is in government, law, and accounting and his key responsibilities are working with the daily operations of the council, deal making with various capital markets, strategic planning, community engagement in indigenous communities and building partnerships and various programs.  He has held appointments as Chairman of Hospital Boards and Chairman of the Babinda Sugar Cane Prices Board. Mr. Norman earned his Bachelor of Laws from Queensland University of Technology in 1989. He also holds a Bachelor of Business, majoring in Accounting. 

Throughout his illustrious career, Mr. Norman has been active in his community and recognized worldwide for his outstanding leadership and commitment to the field.   He has received awards, accolades and has been featured in publications and magazines such as Who’s Who, Top 101 Industry Experts, and is being considered for a feature in TIP (Top Industry Professional) Magazine. In 2014 he was named Outstanding Professional of the Year by Who’s Who and for 2017 named “Top CEO of the Year” by the International Association of Top Professionals (IAOTP).  He is a member of the Local Government Managers Association and the Local Government Finance Practitioners Association.

Aside from his successful career in the legal field and in government, Mr. Norman has also had a number of books and articles published.  The President of IAOTP, Stephanie Cirami stated that “Choosing Ross for this award was an easy decision for our panel to make.  He is brilliant, active in his community and has been successful throughout his career.  He is an international leader in his field and he was exactly what we were looking for.  We know we will be seeing more outstanding things from this man and hope to spend time with him at the gala.”

Looking back, Mr. Norman attributes his success to his longevity, his diverse skill set and his motivation for always wanting to learn more and to be better.  Ross says he has been blessed, he loves doing what he is doing, and feels this is just the beginning.  When he is not working he enjoys reading and travelling. For the future, Mr. Norman will continue to serve his community and hopes to continue making a difference anyway that he can.
