Mengfang Yang Takes Film Editing to New Heights in Hilarious Comedy: Baker’s Man

Mengfang Yang came to the U.S.A. from China to become one of Hollywood’s most sought after editors.

It takes many talented people to pull off a comedy in today’s competitive film and television market.  While writers, directors and talent play an enormous role in a film’s success, most top producers know it is the movie editor that brings richness and life to any worthy production.  Editor Mengfang Yang did just that in the outstanding new comedy Baker’s Man which is now streaming on Amazon Prime.


Mengfang moved to Los Angeles to pursue her career in film editing, and Hollywood has made great use of this talented and passionate editor.  While working behind the camera in China, Mengfang began getting offers to work in Hollywood. Her unique skills in editing attracted producers and directors who wanted to tell their stories in an award-winning way.  With her extraordinary film cutting skills, Mengfang was the right choice, but a career with Hollywood’s best producers would required she move to the entertainment capital of the world.  “I was excited about the new opportunities, and I knew where I had to be to fulfill my dreams,” said Yang.  “So, I came to Hollywood to expand my work and work with these important movie industry professional.”

Comedy can be especially challenging for film editors because it requires a keen sense of timing and a great sense of humor.  Baker’s Man was the perfect vehicle to showcase Mengfang’s talent in this arena.  The film, written and directed by Maurice Hall, is about a  multimillionaire who falls in love with the beautiful pastry chef that he believes stole his mother’s bakery.  Mengfang sets up the scenes with expertise and builds to a comedic climax that makes the most of stellar performances by co-stars Khaneshia ‘KJ’ Smith (Naomi) and Patrick Johnson (Doug). Baker’s Man premiered at SAG-AFTRA on June 16th to positive reviews and is now streaming online.

Yang also edited the highly anticipated indie film When it Rains by director Migdia Chinea, which will be released in soon.  Mengfang Yang has also had several project that have earned excellent reviews in film festivals.  Hero for a Day received an award at the Largo Film AwardsNot So Union, another comedy starring Michael Steger, was an official selection for the Hollywood Comedy shorts.  The Wrights, featuring Ted Danson, was featured at the renowned Omaha Film Festival as well as the Culver City Film Festival.

She began filming professionally during her undergrad school in China where she earned a BA degree in TV and Broadcasting directing.
