When publisher Frank Felker was first considering what book cover design could support author Jason Osser’s book, Riding QuickBooks To The Promised Land, he immediately envisioned Osser astride a Harley-Davidson. “A beautiful Harley is just the type of reward that entrepreneurs imagine earning when they set out to create a successful small business,” stated Felker. “As it turned out, the energy of the photo we captured causes the book cover to really pop. We could not have achieved that beautiful effect without Bull Run Harley-Davidson’s help and support.”
“When Powerhouse Publishing first called me to ask for our help, I was a little confused,” said Chris Taylor, General Manager of the Manassas, Virginia motorcycle dealership. “What does a book about accounting software have to do with Harleys? But, as we talked, I really came to like the idea and offered to do whatever we could to help.”
Taylor opened Bull Run’s showroom to the creative team from Powerhouse Publishing for an entire morning, and rolled in a beautiful Heritage Softail as the centerpiece of the shoot. The dealership has also graciously agreed to host a book signing party for Jason once he and his CPA practice recover from tax season.
The result of the photo session was a striking cover design which features the author, Annandale-based serial entrepreneur and CPA Jason Osser, in a business suit with his arms folded, leaning back on the powerful black Harley cruiser. This single shot, chosen from over 500 images captured that day by Maryland-based photographer Mike Olliver, was then combined with the title text and superimposed over a beautiful mountain road photo by Mark Basarab (Unsplash), to create the powerful finished design.
“The folks at Bull-Run Harley-Davidson could not have been nicer,” stated Olliver, the photographer Powerhouse brought in to handle the shoot. “They gave us all the room we needed – and the bike they loaned us for the morning was awesome!”
Fueled by its cover design, on March 19, 2018, Riding QuickBooks To The Promised Land debuted at #1 on Amazon’s best seller lists, in both the Financial Accounting and Managerial Accounting categories. “I have no doubt that the cover featuring that bike had a big impact on the book’s success with Amazon buyers,” said Powerhouse publisher Frank Felker. “You can tell whether a book contains quality content based upon the professionalism of its cover design. This title delivers actionable information that QuickBooks users can take to the bank.”
Subtitled How The World’s Most Successful Entrepreneurs Use The World’s Most Popular Accounting Software To Make More Money In Less Time, Osser’s book is a hit with business owners who use QuickBooks to track their firms’ performance. “This is the best book I’ve read on QuickBooks, and I really feel that I now have a clear understanding of how to set things up and get the reports I need to make business decisions quickly,” shared Martin Saenz, co-founder of Lighted Signs Direct.
