Lactic acid is the key agent used for developing Poly Lactic Acid (PLA), the biodegradable polymer. The remarkable feature of PLA is that it is biodegradable and undergoes further decomposition. Its degradation does not need enzymes and the hydrolysis is dependent upon temperature, the ratio of isomers contained, and the size of the article made from PLA.
