After an initial soft launch event at this year’s Winter NAMM show in Anaheim, the new MeetHook app is being unveiled across the country thanks to its promo bus tour spearheaded by Stephen Perkins of Jane’s Addiction. The app has already been hailed for its fresh and original platform that allows musicians and industry professionals to interact with students, fans and colleagues by hosting one-on-one video sessions. These calls can be used to conduct lessons, give advice or just converse, all without fear of interruption.
The app aims to change the way we connect within the music industry, while also providing a new revenue stream for hosts. This is because the artist or professional can set their own fair rate for the time they give to run the session, and they can work with the system anywhere, anytime, as much or as little as they want. MeetHook was designed and built by musicians, in order to make interacting through the app as easy as possible. Payment can be deposited directly to a bank account, or via PayPal and hosts can set their own availability and get paid by the minute when they’re online.
Founder and CEO of MeetHook, Ant Cee, described the thinking behind the idea, “I believe the conversations, insights and advice I’ve received from the countless pros I’ve met have changed the trajectory of my life and career as a musician and music industry professional. That’s why I wanted to bring this opportunity to everyone.”
He feels that technology has, up till now, made it more difficult for musicians and the like to earn, and wanted to change all that, “There is a need for most musicians and music professionals to create an additional income source. I believe MeetHook is an example of technology making it easier.”
Stephen Perkins was an early advocate of the technology. The Jane’s Addiction drummer says, “MeetHook connects people of all levels in their craft. It is-leveling the playing field for sought-after information and the exchange of that knowledge is priceless. There is real power in the experience with MeetHook. It’s a one on one conversation with the source”.
To promote the app, and benefit the Sweet Relief Musician Fund – a charity providing financial assistance to struggling career musicians – Perkins offered four 15 minute sessions via MeetHook this week. He’s also taking part in the first three stops of the MeetHook Promo Bus Tour which kicked off in La Mesa, CA on September 18th.
The tour will include workshops with professional musicians, giveaways, meet-and-greets, ‘drive-by drum circles’ and MeetHook Family Gatherings with the MeetHook promo bus.
