With the US economy still recovering from the recession, there are more freelancers, entrepreneurs, start-ups and small businesses than ever before. One of the ways these non-traditional workers have managed to survive is through coworking.
With coworking, many different people share the same work environment although they work independently and are not employed by the same organization. It has proven to be a successful alternative for large numbers of people … and is now the subject of a new reality series.
It’s call CoWork.

“This is a web-based video series that shows you what really happens inside a coworking space,” says executive producer Lucas Colavecchio of Sarasota, Fla.. “The concept of coworking is huge right now and it’s only getting bigger. Coworking has become an international trend, with more than 3,000 cowork spaces launching in the past few years across the globe.”
“Many consider coworking the beginning of a major shift in how people work and conduct business, especially entrepreneurs and artists.”
The CoWork show follows entrepreneurs as they launch their ideas, interact with other start-ups, investors and other coworkers. It is filmed in a real work space, the HuB Studios lab, and there are no actors. “It’s the real people in the HuB doing what we do on a daily basis,” notes Colavecchio.
Four episodes have been produced thus far.
“I think people can really relate to this show because a cowork space, or any type of office space, has a dynamic that viewers understand and have lived through at some point in their lives,” says Colavecchio. “It’s fun to sit back and watch it develop.”
To this point, it’s been a volunteer project but co-creators Rich Swier and Colavecchio feel obligated to start paying the show’s editors, sound engineers, volunteers and videographers. So they have launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise enough money ($20,000) for the production of four more episodes.
The Kickstarter page, which includes videos of the first two episodes in their entirety, can be viewed at www.kickstarter.com/projects/cowork/cowork-reality-show
Donations of any amount are welcome. For a contribution of $25, backers will receive an official CoWork T-shirt. A $200 pledge is rewarded with a cameo role in one of the episodes and for $750, you can have a major role.
“This is by no means a big Hollywood production,” Swier says. “This show is the result of a small, but dedicated, group of creatives working with almost no budget. Yet we’ve been able to pull off something pretty remarkable.”
