Auckland, NZ – Language education app series, LuvLingua, is celebrating the exciting milestone of hitting 2 million downloads.
From humble beginnings in 2015, the apps series developed by LuvLingua, pronounced “love ling-gwah”, has become a staple for new language learners. Specifically designed by language educators, the apps teach users basic words and phrases through fun and interactive games.
“When I came up with the concept, it was important to ensure I developed it in collaboration with professionals who both teach and speak each language,” says Chris Tonkin, founder of LuvLingua.
As someone who is passionate about bringing people together, Tonkin wanted to make learning language fun. “People usually don’t know how to start learning a language, but our apps get people into the language in no time. Many people have told us that our apps have helped them understand other cultures and communicate better with their friends, colleagues and significant others.”
Currently, 15 different languages are available from the developer, including Japanese, Korean, English, Thai, Vietnamese, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Czech, Farsi, Swedish, Russian, Portuguese, and Mandarin Chinese. Each version of the app is translated into over 30 languages for users across the globe.
In order for the app to stand out against the competition, LuvLingua uses authentic native speakers for the audio, and a wide range of games and resources that cater to different learning styles.
In addition to using native speakers for the audio, the app’s simplistic design and color also help to create an easier learning environment for the user. “While our app may look like it’s for kids,” says Tonkin, “it’s highly beneficial for learners of all ages. Many adults play childlike games, such as Candy Crush, but our app is actually educational.”
