At Cajon Valley Middle School, leadership is an everyday part of the community built at the school. CVMS Leadership is a class students can take that focuses on community service, spreading positivity, building community at CVMS, understanding the importance of empathy and sympathy, and spreading awareness about the negative effects of things like vaping (the newest epidemic in teens today). Cajon Valley Leadership also hosts fundraisers and promotes environmental care through recycling pick-ups.

CVMS Leadership’s motto is simple, but has a huge impact on the school: positive leaders create positive followers. The students and staff involved with CVMS Leadership promote positivity on campus through programs like “Hello Week”, “Say Something Week” and by attending summits and meetings in the community like “Teens Kick Ash” at the San Diego County Office of Education. Another huge way Leadership students positively impact Cajon Valley Middle School is by acting as mentors to their peers at CVMS by visiting students with special needs and working with them on various social skills.

Cajon Valley Middle School holds and annual showcasing event to highlight all the great things happening on the campus, and organizers of the event approached CVMS Leadership about participating in the 2018 Showcase. CVMS Leadership teacher, Diane Putrus, said, “When I approached my students about participating in the event, we brainstormed ideas for how to showcase the 2018 leadership class. We wanted to promote our motto and mission. So, how do we do this in a multipurpose room in 5 minutes? A flash mob!”

The CVMS Leadership class set to work to come up with a flash mob routine that would showcase the goals of the class. As flash mobs dances normally start off with just a few people dancing and others gradually join in, the CVMS Leadership flash mob symbolized the a few people can cause a great movement!
