Brazilian priest seeking worldwide donations to build Itapeva church

It would be much more than a house of worship. Church would be a cultural center for the entire city.

Renato Arlindo Ferreira is a priest in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Itapeva, Brazil, a city of 88,000 that is located 73 miles northeast of Sao Paulo. His lifelong dream is to build a church in Itapeva but funding for this project is limited.

“This is a city that is not wealthy and, although we are receiving some funding from the Catholic Church, we are far short of our goal,” says Ferreira. “We are hoping that people will donate to this worthy cause and help us build the church we all dream about.

“It will not only function as a religious building but a cultural center for the entire city. Everyone in the area will benefit from this church. We need people around the world who can help us, as this work will have a great contribution to the development of our city.”

The estimate for materials, labor and other construction costs comes to $108,303. In order to generate this capital, Arlindo has launched an Indiegogo campaign, which can be viewed at

This crowdfunding campaign was launched on Feb. 9 and will close on April 10.

Donations of any amount are welcome. Ferreira is hoping that Catholics from all over the world will see the need for constructing this church and contribute to this project.

“We will appreciate any amount that people are willing to donate,” he says. “Even just a few dollars will be a big help, especially if many people can find it in their hearts to make a contribution. A new church in our city would be such a wonderful addition.”
