Windsor, CO – October 15, 2019 – Yara Zokaie announced today that she will be running for Colorado State House District 49 in the November 2020 election.
Said Yara, “I am running to ensure that Colorado is the best place to raise a family and every person has equal opportunity regardless of race, gender, religious beliefs or sexual orientation.”
Yara Zokaie is a first generation Iranian American. Yara attended law school at University of San Diego School of Law, and was the youngest member of her graduating class at the age of 23. After law school, Yara received a masters in taxation and began practicing tax law.
Yara has two young boys. Remy James is almost three, and Roman Bernard will soon be one. Yara’s family is the most important thing to her and you can frequently find Yara with her boys at the park or at local town events.
Yara is concerned about the Colorado her boys are growing up in, and she is worried families do not have the resources they need. This motivated Yara to run for State House. She is determined to make Colorado the best state in the country to raise a family.
Yara’s policies for a better Colorado include paid family leave, universal Pre-K, better mental health services, the elimination of cash bail, support for workers rights, and support for local farming.
Should Yara succeed in securing the democratic nomination for House District 49, she will likely face republican Vicki Marble in the general election in November 2020.
Vicki Marble is a controversial figure in Colorado politics. Notably, Vicki Marble made headlines for her comments about health “problems in the black race,” voted against Equal Pay Day bill — a resolution encouraging government agencies within the state to close the gender pay gap, was found guilty of ethical violations for her role in a public meeting on energy paid for by Extraction Oil and Gas, and recently called for northern Colorado to secede from the state.
Elections for the office of Colorado House of Representatives will take place in 2020. The general election will be held on November 3, 2020. A primary is scheduled for June 30, 2020.
