After a selection process through various non-profit organizations in and around Baltimore, we have chosen select families who we at the Price Busters Family believed could help ease the stress, hardship, and money that comes from unfortunate circumstances, especially homelessness. Homelessness is not a choice, but a circumstance.
Our first family was highly recommended as recipients from their case manager at Sarah’s Hope (a comprehensive 145-bed shelter in Baltimore City serving families experiencing homelessness), a division of St. Vincent De Paul of Baltimore.

This story is about a single mother who has faced almost impossible odds. Ms. Jennifer (last name withheld) is a mother of three children. While the love for her children knows no bounds, her love has come with a struggle. Two of her children were born with Autism, a developmental disorder that impairs the ability to communicate and interact socially. That did not stop Ms. Jennifer from being there for her children and providing what she could.
During this time, she was living with her mother, but unfortunately, her mother’s leg had to be amputated, which forced her and her children from her mother’s home. Ms. Jennifer secured a shelter spot for her and her children, and through Sarah’s hope, was able to get permanent housing, but is back to square one on moving forward. She and her children are currently sleeping on air mattresses. Change is happening. On Wednesday, the day before Thanksgiving, Ms. Jennifer will be the recipient of an entire houseful of furniture, because no family should be without a properly furnished home.
The family’s social worker, Leroy Fowlkes, spoke so highly of the family, and we are thrilled to able to help them in their journey because no family should go into Thanksgiving not having a home to share with the people you love. By furnishing this family’s home, we hope this can help alleviate some of the stress associated with the struggles they have gone through.
“Home for the Holidays” was started in 2018 in honor of one of the owners of Price Busters Furniture, Steve Schuman, whose firm belief in life was to give to others, so we have continued his tradition in his merit.
