Payette County Roads Set for Smoother Ride Thanks to Columbia Chipseal Project

PAYETTE, ID – Payette County residents can anticipate smoother travels in the coming months as Columbia Chipseal has been awarded the contract to improve numerous roads throughout the county. The project, aimed at preserving and extending the life of existing asphalt surfaces, is slated to begin in mid May and continue through July, weather permitting.

The chipseal process involves applying a thin layer of asphalt emulsion to the existing road surface followed by a layer of crushed stone, also known as aggregate. This seals cracks, prevents water intrusion, and improves skid resistance, ultimately minimizing the need for more costly and disruptive road reconstruction in the future.

“By proactively addressing road maintenance through chipsealing, we can save taxpayer dollars in the long run and ensure safer, more reliable roadways for our community.”

A complete list of roads and a map outlining the project area will be available on the Payette County website.

While the project promises long-term benefits, residents should be aware of potential temporary inconveniences during the application process. Traffic delays are expected in work zones as roads will be reduced to single-lane traffic with flaggers directing vehicles.
