2. Evaluate Financial Health

Scaling up requires significant financial resources and investments. Dee Agarwal suggests conducting a detailed financial assessment to ensure the business can support the expansion.

“Your core operations should be scalable,” Dee Agarwal advises. “This means having efficient systems in place that can handle increased demand without compromising on quality or customer satisfaction.”

4. Develop a Scalable Business Model

A scalable business model is essential for successful expansion. Dee Agarwal points out that businesses need to ensure their model can be replicated in different markets.

“A business model that works in a small market might not be suitable for a larger one,” Dee Agarwal notes. “Adaptability and flexibility are key. You need to be ready to pivot your model to meet the demands of new markets.”

5. Build a Strong Team

A strong, cohesive team is the backbone of any successful expansion. Dee Agarwal stresses the importance of having the right talent in place.

“Scaling up requires a team that is not only skilled but also aligned with your vision,” he says. “Invest in hiring, training, and retaining top talent that understand the market you are looking to enter and are willing to take accountability.”

Technology and automation can significantly streamline the scaling process. Dee Agarwal encourages businesses to embrace digital tools and platforms that enhance efficiency and productivity.

“From CRM systems to data analytics and automation, technology can provide valuable insights and improve operational efficiency,” Dee Agarwal explains. “It’s an investment that pays off in the long run.”

7. Mitigate Risks

Entering a new market comes with its own set of risks. Dee Agarwal advises businesses to have a robust risk management strategy in place that takes into account business and market vulnerabilities and potential scenarios.

“Identify potential risks and develop strategies to mitigate them,” Dee Agarwal says. “Whether it’s regulatory challenges, supply chain issues, or market volatility, being prepared can save you a lot of headaches down the road.”

8. Focus on Customer Experience

Customer experience should remain a top priority, regardless of the market size. Dee Agarwal highlights the importance of maintaining high standards of customer service.

“Your customers are your biggest advocates,” Dee Agarwal states. “Delivering exceptional service and creating positive experiences will help you build a loyal customer base and drive growth. Build raving fans at every instance by obsessing over your customers.”

9. Adapt Your Marketing Strategy

Dee Agarwal believes that a tailored marketing strategy is crucial for capturing the attention of a larger audience.

“Your marketing efforts need to resonate with the new market demographics,” Agarwal advises. “Invest in market-specific campaigns, leverage local influencers, and utilize ROAS-driven amplification to reach a broader audience on UGC.”

10. Monitor and Evaluate Performance

Finally, continuous monitoring and evaluation of your core KPIs are essential to ensure the success of your expansion efforts. Remember, what gets measured gets done.

“Regularly track your performance metrics,” Dee Agarwal recommends. “Analyze what’s working and what’s not, and be ready to make necessary adjustments. Scaling up is an ongoing process of learning and improvement.”

Dee Agarwal Final Thoughts on Scaling

Scaling up to larger markets can propel your business to new heights, but it requires careful planning and execution. By taking cues from Dee Agarwal’s checklist, businesses can navigate the complexities of expansion and position themselves for sustained success.

Eagle Railcar Services Expands Junction City, KS Facility to Support Increased Demand and Throughput

Eagle Railcar Services Expands Junction City, KS Facility to Support Increased Demand and Throughput

Eagle Railcar Services, Eastland, TX, USA
21,000+ square feet of new under-roof capacity strengthens shop’s paint, PD, and mechanical capabilities

Eagle Railcar Services has announced the completion of a major expansion at its Junction City, Kansas facility, further solidifying the shop as a high-capacity service hub in the Midwest. The project adds more than 21,300 square feet of new shop space and 12 under-roof car spots, significantly boosting throughput and interdepartmental flow across key service lines.

Since acquiring the Junction City location in 2022, Eagle Railcar Services has invested heavily in infrastructure upgrades, certifications, and operational expansion. The recent build-out adds targeted improvements across three core areas—mechanical, paint, and pressure differential (PD) car handling.

Marc Walraven states, the mechanical expansion includes six new car spots under roof, a 10,800-square-foot building equipped with an overhead crane, added finishing areas, and dedicated valve and hopper assembly space. On the coatings side, the new paint extension introduces two car spots and 4,200 square feet of workspace tailored for automated mixing units (AMUs), curing, QA, and touch-up finishing. The third addition, a 6,300-square-foot paint and PD extension, provides four more spots for PD cars and room for assembly, heat, and specialized finishing processes.

“These upgrades are more than just added space—they’re a continuation of our effort to streamline operations and provide fast, high-quality service at a location that continues to grow in importance for our customers,” said a spokesperson from Eagle Railcar Services. “Junction City’s central position makes it a natural go-to for fleets in the Midwest, and this expansion ensures we can meet rising demand with efficiency.”

In addition to shop improvements, the site now boasts 400 total car spots across 66 acres—up 120% from its previous capacity. The shop’s capabilities include 24 repair spots under roof, 14 paint/lining positions, four cleaning lanes, four flaring stations, and an automated cleaning system. With land available for future development, Eagle has also positioned Junction City to support new services such as transloading and storage if customer needs continue to grow.

Customers in petrochemicals, agriculture, energy, and industrial transport sectors are already utilizing Junction City’s expanded offerings, making it one of Eagle’s most active and dynamic sites.

Belgium: A Key Hub for Colocation Data Centers with Strong Market Growth

Belgium is a leading colocation data center hub in Western Europe, home to around 35 operational facilities, with Brussels hosting the majority. Major providers include Digital Realty, Datacenter United, EdgeConneX, LCL Data Centers, and Penta Infra. As of December 2024, Digital Realty generated approximately $38.54 million in annualized rent from its three Brussels-based data centers, maintaining a 69.7% occupancy rate and adding 6.8 MW of power capacity. The average occupancy rate across Belgium’s data centers stands at 78%, with Brussels nearing 80%. Revenue per MW varies, but is estimated at $3 million to $3.5 million for colocation operators. Foreign investment is increasing, evidenced by nLighten’s acquisition of data centers from Exa Infrastructure. The market is primarily driven by demand from cloud and IT sectors, followed by telecom and BFSI. Upcoming hyperscale data center projects are expected to boost revenue in the coming years.

Brussels Emerges as a Data Center Powerhouse in Belgium’s Growing Market

Brussels continues to be the dominant force in Belgium’s data center market, driven by its strategic location as a digital business hub and financial center. Hosting around 15 existing data centers and attracting global and local providers like Digital Realty, EdgeConneX, and Google, the city is set to see significant growth with five new data center projects under construction. Investments from major players such as Google, Penta Infra, and LCL Data Centers highlight the increasing competitiveness of Brussels’ data center market. The city’s adoption of cloud-based services, AI, and IoT is further fueled by large enterprises in finance and media. Additionally, Penta Infra’s acquisition of the Nexus data center campus and LCL’s $32 million expansion showcase continued commitment to growth. With an estimated growth rate of 443% between 2025 and 2030, Brussels is expected to account for the bulk of Belgium’s data center investments, cementing its position as a leading data center hub in Europe.

Belgium Data Centers Transitioning to Renewable Energy with Enhanced Power Backup Systems

In Belgium, many data center facilities have adopted diesel generators with N+1 redundancy, ensuring reliable power backup. Notably, some operators, like Kevlinx Data Centers at the BRU01 campus, have switched to using Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) fuel in their generators. Digital Realty’s BRU4 facility and AtlasEdge’s BRU001 facility in Brussels both use N+1 and N+N redundant generators, respectively, to provide robust backup power. However, as sustainability becomes a key focus, data center operators in Belgium are planning to reduce their reliance on diesel generators and shift towards renewable energy solutions in the coming years.

  • In March 2022, Intas Pharmaceuticals launched a biosimilar of Lucentis®, (ranibizumab). Intas is the first firm in the world to develop and market a ranibizumab biosimilar. RAZUMABTM is a single-dose vial that is made under rigorous requirements for sterile use in the eye, decreasing the risk of contamination during usage. Ranibizumab is a therapeutic antibody fragment developed exclusively for the treatment of ocular degenerative diseases. It inhibits the synthesis of vascular endothelial cell growth factor A (VEGF-A), a protein that, when overexpressed in the retina, causes aberrant blood vessel development, leaks, and vision loss. With the mission to provide global healthcare at affordable costs, RAZUMABTM will be about 25 percent cheaper than the imported Lucentis® in the hand of the patient.
  • In January 2022, Roche got FDA approval for the monoclonal antibody named Vabysmo, formerly known as faricimab, which is a novel type of biological medication known as a bispecific antibody because it binds to two proteins instead of just one. In the instance of Vabysmo, Roche’s medicine binds to two proteins: VEGF, which is targeted by Eylea and Lucentis, and Ang-2, which is not.

Choroidal Neovascularization Overview

Choroidal neovascularization (CNV) is a condition characterized by the abnormal growth of blood vessels in the choroid layer of the eye, which can lead to vision loss. It is commonly associated with age-related macular degeneration (AMD), but can also occur due to other factors such as myopia and ocular inflammation. CNV causes leakage of fluid and blood into the retina, resulting in the formation of scars and distorted vision. Treatment options include anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (anti-VEGF) injections, photodynamic therapy, and laser photocoagulation. Early detection and prompt intervention are crucial in managing CNV and preserving visual function.

Shoughi Darakhshan Featured in Powerful New Interview on Leadership, Resilience, and Building with Purpose

Shoughi Darakhshan Featured in Powerful New Interview on Leadership, Resilience, and Building with Purpose

Shoughi Darakhshan, Fairfax, Virginia, USA
Disaster Recovery Expert Offers Deep Insights on Service, Structure, and Turning Setbacks into Strength

In a compelling new interview titled “Shoughi Darakhshan: Leading from the Ashes—A Restorer’s Truths on Grit, Growth, and Giving Back,” entrepreneur and disaster recovery expert Shoughi Darakhshan opens up about his life, his work, and the mindset that has guided him through every challenge.

The in-depth Q&A features Darakhshan’s honest and practical views on leadership, discipline, trust, and legacy. A third-generation restorer, he immigrated to the United States from Iran at age three and began working in restoration at just 20 years old. Today, he leads a comprehensive remediation and emergency recovery company in Fairfax, Virginia, and is also the founder of 911 BoardUp, a victim assistance program that helps families in the immediate aftermath of a fire.

“They think it’s about fixing buildings,” Darakhshan says in the interview. “It’s not. It’s about restoring peace of mind. Our job is to be their anchor in chaos.”

In the interview, Darakhshan discusses how discipline—not motivation—is what drives consistent success. He reflects on hard decisions, such as letting go of people he cared about for the greater good of the company. He also shares how his four older brothers helped shape his work ethic and belief in ownership.

“No one is coming to save you—and that’s a good thing,” he explains. “That mindset pushes you to take full responsibility.”

The feature dives deep into Darakhshan’s belief that personal growth comes from subtracting distractions, protecting your time, and being more intentional with your energy. He details how his daily habits—including early workouts, journaling, and weekly reading—fuel both his business and his mindset.

Another standout topic in the interview is the role of failure. Darakhshan recounts trusting the wrong partners early in his career, a costly experience that taught him to vet character over credentials and always put everything in writing.

“Obstacles only exist in the mind,” he says. “It’s how you respond that shapes the outcome.”

He also speaks to young entrepreneurs, urging them not to wait for perfection. “Start messy, but stay consistent. Most people fail because they don’t stick around long enough to succeed.”

Darakhshan’s reflections aren’t just about building a company—they’re about building people. Through quiet discipline, grounded service, and clear purpose, he’s helping others rise from the ashes—one restoration at a time.

About Shoughi Darakhshan

Andrea Kelly Takes on Size Inequalities in Outdoor Apparel by Making Plus Equal

Challenging Outdated Norms with Inclusion Insights at June’s Inaugural Switchback Tradeshow

PORTLAND, OR – The outdoor apparel industry has a sizing problem – and Andrea Kelly, Founder and CEO of the size inclusion consulting firm, Make Plus Equal, is on a mission to fix it. With over 25 years of experience building apparel for some of the world’s biggest brands, Andrea is focused on recalibrating the outdated sizing norms that have left far too many outdoor enthusiasts behind.

While more than 70% of the US population is considered plus-sized, only 8% of all apparel companies offer products for this demographic, creating a significant inequity for people in bigger bodies to find the gear they need. By educating and guiding brands to widen their customer base beyond just 30% of the population, Andrea is helping them balance that inequity. By understanding, embracing, and including the plus-sized community along with their existing target audience as they build their business strategies, these brands not only have the opportunity to increase their revenue by expanding their market reach, but do so all while earning the trust of loyal customers who have long been overlooked.

Andrea is one of the space’s leading voices and has been a frequent speaker at universities, local size-inclusive fashion shows, and body-positive events like ChubHub’s Annual Block Party in Portland. Her past clients include Hoka, Trew Gear, and Columbia Sportswear, proving that embracing all shapes and sizes isn’t just a passion, but an effective strategy that has seen rapid revenue growth and unprecedented consumer engagement.

This summer, Andrea is bringing this crucial message to the stage at the inaugural.

Switchback Tradeshow in Nashville, Tennessee (June 16–18, 2025). Her session, “Inclusion Insights: Busting 4 Size Inclusion Myths to Boost Revenue & Market Share,” will deliver practical strategies for brands ready to learn and grow by considering a more diverse audience in their business planning.

In 2022, Andrea was named one of Outside Business Journal’s “20 Most Influential People in the Outdoor Industry.” She’s also been featured on several major podcasts, including Rock Fight, Another Mother Runner, and The Hiker Podcast, and has contributed to key panels hosted by REI, Outdoor Retailer, and The Running Event. Most recently, she delivered keynotes at FatCon 2025 and the Superwoman Summit in Portland.

Unlike many other consultants, Andrea speaks the language of both the consumer and the business. As a plus-sized outdoor enthusiast herself, she brings firsthand insight into what’s missing from today’s gear racks, not only from her experiences, but from the collective experiences of the plus-sized community as well, educating her clients on how to better serve a historically-marginalized demographic. Additionally, through her work in the outdoor apparel industry, she has led major initiatives at globally recognized outfitter Columbia Sportswear, with an approach that bridges the gap between brand hesitation and consumer frustration. She understands the unique challenges brands face in becoming size-inclusive and has helped overcome them, unlocking millions in revenue for her former employer.

Inclusivity isn’t just about adding sizes to a brand’s catalog. It’s about rethinking the entire equation and about empowering every adventurer to experience the outdoors. Andrea helps brands make plus equal—in fit, function, pricing, and marketing—because everybody deserves equal choice and equal access to the outdoors, regardless of their size.
