Far too often we choose to align ourselves with what our social conditioning and ego programming tell us we want. But that’s often quite far from what the soul wants and what it’s going to take to live authentically.

In Candia Lea Cole’s memoir, we learn that her soul is destined for a life in which she is meant to thrive as a leader and Eco-Mentor, but she must first embark on a health quest to understand, manage, and heal the symptoms of a complex mystery illness – known today, as “environmental illness.”

This illness, Candia leads us to understand, resulted first from her exposure to chemicals in her mother’s womb, and later, from the toxins she was exposed to while growing up that resulted from consuming processed foods, drug-based medicines, and conventionally produced lifestyle products.

Because allopathic doctors were not trained to diagnose or treat her health issue, Candia set out on her own to explore the world of natural medicine and become a student of the natural healing arts. Along her path of “self-healing,” she awakened her innate eco-intelligence, – the intelligence that she says led her to understand the intricate connection between her health and the earth’s health, and which showed her the relationships that governed their health.

The curriculum lays out the six steps to eco-intelligent living that she unearthed on her educational path and that “spirit” guided her to use as a foundation for her work. Each step within the curriculum serves to invite awareness of why to create an eco-conscious lifestyle and how to use the following principles to create it: 1) Eco-Conscious, 2) Eco-Relational, 3) Eco-Sustainable, 4) Eco-Nutritional, 5) Eco-Medicinal, and 6) Eco-Spiritual.

The curriculum, Candia poetically illustrates in her memoir, represents a 12-year labor of love that was born out of discipline (which she regards as “the highest form of self-love”) but that also entailed many hardships and obstacles. Though the obstacles she faced, (including a neurological disability) may sometimes strike the reader as insurmountable, she manages to overcome them by staying true to her purpose, tapping into and trusting the voice of her feminine wisdom, and acknowledging that she is here to assist Mother Earth in “birthing” a new and better reality.

Environmental illness, we learn from Candia’s story, is impacting all people and living things. And the time has come for each of us to address it, so we can help life go on for ourselves and the generations that may be destined to follow us!
