Unlocking Vehicle Insights with VIN Decoders and Automotive Market Data: How to Buy Smarter and Sell Faster

Vehicle fraud, hidden damage, and pricing inconsistencies make informed decisions more critical than ever. With 350,000 flood-damaged vehicles entering the market in 2024 and over 1 million vehicle thefts in 2023, the risks for buyers continue to rise.

As the used car market grows, so do the challenges buyers and sellers face. Vehicle fraud, hidden damage, and pricing inconsistencies make informed decisions more critical than ever. With 350,000 flood-damaged vehicles entering the market in 2024 and over 1 million vehicle thefts in 2023, the risks for buyers continue to rise. Checking theft and recovery records is crucial to avoid ownership disputes. In a crowded market, leveraging vehicle data helps buyers make informed choices, and dealerships close sales faster.

Imagine a “vehicle DNA report” that reveals every critical detail about a car’s life. Buyers and sellers alike gain the upper hand in navigating the complex automotive market. Tools like VIN decoders and automotive market data feeds make this vision a reality, providing crucial details about a car’s history, specifications, and value.

This article explores how leveraging these tools benefits both consumers and small independent dealerships, helping buyers make informed purchases and businesses improve sales performance.

Unlocking Vehicle Insights with VIN Decoders What Are VIN Decoders?

VIN decoders extract information directly from a vehicle’s VIN number, providing fundamental details such as make, model, manufacturing location, vehicle specifications, trim level, production year, and country of origin. A VIN decoding tool does not provide accident history, title records, or ownership details unlike vehicle history reports. Instead, they offer a structured way to verify a car’s identity based solely on factory-issued information.

Why VIN Decoding Matters

VIN decoding solutions are especially crucial for buyers who need detailed specifications about a specific vehicle before making a purchase decision. It allows them to confirm essential details, ensuring they get exactly what they expect.

Buyers use VIN decoders:

  • Verify vehicle authenticity by checking VIN-extracted specifications.
  • Avoid misinformation by confirming make, model, and trim details.
  • Gain confidence in choosing the right vehicle based on accurate factory data.
  • Negotiate better deals with verified vehicle data in hand.

While dealerships do not use VIN decoders directly for their operations, they benefit when buyers leverage these tools to verify vehicle details. Transparency in listings reduces disputes and returns due to incorrect vehicle details. By offering VIN decoding as a resource for customers, dealerships can further enhance their reputation and streamline the sales process.

VIN Decoding Applications and Tools

Here are the most common VIN decoding tools and applications:

Government Services – Agencies like the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) and NICB (National Insurance Crime Bureau) offer basic vehicle details and theft/salvage status.

Vehicle History Providers – Platforms like VinAudit provide free VIN decoding service with the option to purchase a detailed vehicle history report.

OEM & Manufacturer VIN Lookup Tools – Many automakers offer their own VIN decoding tools to verify factory specifications, recall status, and original equipment details.

Harnessing the Power of Automotive Market Data What Is Automotive Market Data?

Automotive market data provides real-time insights into vehicle pricing, market trends, and consumer demand. This data is sourced from millions of listings, dealership records, and historical transactions, offering key intelligence for sellers.

Why Automotive Market Data Is Essential

Here’s why these automotive data feeds are indispensable:

  • Competitive Pricing: With access to live market data, dealerships can price their vehicles competitively, ensuring they attract buyers while maximizing profit margins. Overpricing can drive potential customers away while underpricing leads to revenue loss—market data helps strike the right balance.
  • Optimized Inventory Management: By analyzing demand patterns, dealerships can stock the most popular vehicles in their region, reducing excess inventory and improving turnover rates.
  • Regional Pricing Trends: Understanding how vehicle prices fluctuate in different locations allows dealerships to adjust pricing strategies and tailor their inventory to meet the specific needs of their market.
  • Data-Driven Marketing Strategies: Insights from market data help dealerships refine their promotional efforts, targeting potential buyers more effectively by aligning campaigns with consumer behavior trends.

While market data for automotive professionals optimize pricing and inventory in dealerships, buyers benefit through fair pricing, better vehicle selection, and competitive deals. Real-time data ensures transparency, helping buyers find well-priced vehicles that match market trends. Ultimately, data-driven strategies improve availability and streamline the buying experience.

Tools and Applications of Automotive Market Data Feed

Leveraging the right tools allows dealerships to analyze market trends, optimize pricing, and align inventory with consumer demand. Here are some examples:

  • APIs for Market Data Integration: Allow seamless access to automotive pricing, inventory, and trend data for integration into dealership management systems.
  • Inventory Management Systems: Help dealerships manage and track vehicle availability.
  • Market Analytics Platforms: Enable dealerships to forecast trends and optimize pricing strategies.
  • Consumer Sentiment Analysis Tools: Identify buyer preferences and adjust marketing strategies accordingly.

Success Stories – Making Smarter Decisions with Data From Red Flags to the Right Deal: Car Research via VIN Decoding

Lisa, a first-time car buyer in California, was searching for a used sedan and found a 2019 Honda Accord EX-L listed for $25,500. Initially, she used a VIN decoder to confirm the vehicle’s specifications, ensuring the listed trim and engine details matched the manufacturer’s records. Wanting more information about its past, she opted to run a full vehicle history report from a provider like VinAudit, which revealed the car had been involved in a rear-end collision two years prior—information the seller had not disclosed. Concerned about the potential long-term issues from the accident, Lisa decided to explore other options and found one with a clean history and accurate specs from another seller, listed at $24,000. After negotiating, she secured the car for $23,500, ensuring she got a safer and better-valued vehicle.

Data-Driven Pricing: The Key to Dealership Sales Boost

An independent dealership in Ohio was struggling to move its 2021 Ford F-150 XLT inventory. Initially priced at $47,000, the trucks weren’t attracting enough buyers. By integrating automotive market data feeds, the dealership analyzed regional pricing trends and discovered that similar F-150s were selling at an average of $44,500 in nearby states. They adjusted their pricing to 44,200 and highlighted the truck’s low mileage and accident-free history in their listings. Within two months, sales increased by 20%, and customer inquiries grew significantly, proving that data-driven pricing strategies directly impacted their business success.

The Road Ahead: Using Data for Better Car Deals

As more people recognize the power of automotive data, buyers are becoming more informed and selective in their purchasing decisions. With access to VIN decoding and market data, consumers can verify vehicle details, compare prices, and assess a car’s history before making a purchase.

Dealerships are also adapting to this data-driven landscape, striving to compete with private sellers by offering greater transparency and customer-focused services. By utilizing real-time pricing data and history reports, they can build trust and attract more buyers who seek reliability and confidence in their transactions.

Meanwhile, data providers are continuously improving their products to meet growing market demands. As competition increases among these providers, the industry as a whole benefits from enhanced data accuracy, better analytics, and more accessible tools—ultimately creating a more efficient and trustworthy automotive marketplace for both buyers and sellers.

How Schneider Electric Confronts the Rising Demand for Data

As power demands continue to increase across the data centre industry, Schneider Electric remains steadfast in its commitment to sustainable solutionsWe live in an era where data consumption is skyrocketing, from two billion terabytes in 2010 to 147 terabytes by the end of 2024. As a result, the data centre industry is facing unprecedented challenges in balancing explosive growth, whilst ensuring environmental responsibility.

Confronting these challenges is Schneider Electric, a key player in the energy management sector that acts as a critical enabler of sustainable data centre solutions. The company prioritises addressing the industry’s expanding power requirements, alongside mitigating environmental impact.

“The acceleration we’re seeing in the demand for digital infrastructure requirements and data is incredibly high,” Mark Garner, Senior Vice President, Secure Power Europe at Schneider Electric, says. “This demand is driving demand for data centres, which are going to see three billion more people worldwide needing access to electricity by 2050.”

Confronting Swelling Data Demands

AI is currently driving the data centre industry as the world becomes more connected. Due to continually-rising demand, the industry cannot escape from the challenges of high energy use.

In order to drive sustainable growth, Marc explains that data centre businesses need to drive electrification and decarbonisation of energy to reach their net zero goals.

“We have to maintain and drive, build, operate and maintain efficiency and sustainability at the core of what we do,” he explains. “We are seeking to lower PUE, which liquid cooling will allow us to decrease even further.”

As data centre infrastructure is built up, Schneider Electric is aware that huge amounts of cloud infrastructure will be needed to support demand. Data centres will need to be designed specifically for the needs of AI, whilst considering future needs too.

“About 60% of the new build is focused around AI and higher density compute,” Marc notes. “Architecture is going to have to change to support that. The benefits are that liquid cooling allows us to really optimise the performance of a data centre. With these challenges, it is going to get us to the next level of efficiency in terms of data centre operation.”

Schneider Electric’s Sustainability Pledge

Already a sustainability trailblazer, Schneider Electric helps data centres optimise power and capacity. Within the business, it has its own decarbonisation agenda, which Marc says is to support greater renewable energy use within the industry.

“The more we can move data centres to renewable energy sources, the more we can start to build out renewable energies,” Marc explains. “The dynamic with our customers is changing, with data centre operators now considering themselves both producers and consumers of energy. Some produce energy from solar panels, build their own wind farms, or invest in storage. They have, in essence, their own microgrid.”

The company’s comprehensive approach includes coordinating power management, optimising systems and the strategic sourcing of clean energy.

Clean energy remains a strong priority for data centre leaders. Hyperscalers like Google and AWS started to invest in nuclear power for the first time in 2024 to operate their data centres renewably, whilst having more power to support their high-intensive workloads.

“If we can’t slow our demand for data, then we have to accelerate our clean energy usage,” Marc says. “There are actions that we can do around clean energy and decarbonised energy production that allow us to maintain our sustainability goals. Whilst we’re looking at how we deploy and deploy at scale around AI, there has to be flexibility in the design to support what’s coming in the future.”

Liquid cooling remains mission-critical

Liquid cooling remains integral to this sustainable mindset, allowing data centres to reduce or optimise energy use within facility buildings.

With this in mind, Schneider Electric is able to complete an end-to-end lifecycle with sustainability in mind, providing system design optimisation to ensure sustainability remains the priority.

Marc adds: “Cooling infrastructure is a critical system. It’s better to cool with a higher water temperature because there are greater sustainability gains – this is the type of advice that is critical for data centres in terms of the value we can bring as an organisation into the full ecosystem that’s supplying data centres.

“We’re learning every day in AI, so we’re all learning at the same time. This allows our customers to have a validated platform design to support data centre operators.”

Schneider Electric Launches Global AI Ecosystem Organization To Help Partners Capture AI Opportunity

Schneider Electric is ramping up its charge to help partners capitalize on the AI revolution with a new global AI and enterprise partner ecosystem organization.

“At Schneider Electric we recognize the transformative impact of the ongoing AI revolution and the significant opportunities it presents for our Strategic Alliances and Partner Ecosystem,” said Paul Tyrer, a 31-year Schneider Electric veteran who was named global vice president of the new AI Enterprise and Partner Ecosystem organization, in a LinkedIn post. “As it stands now, AI-powered solutions have the potential to revolutionize business operations and drive innovation like never before.”

Tyrer, who was previously vice president of the IT channel ecosystem, said the new organization is charged with helping “partners and their customers fully capitalize” on the unique AI opportunity.

“I look forward to leading a dedicated team focused on advancing the Enterprise AI opportunity and fostering a robust global AI Partner Ecosystem,” said Tyrer. “Additionally, I will lead initiatives within the Data Center and Networks Organization for AI in the enterprise space.”

Furthermore, Tyrer said, Schneider Electric’s transformation and pending acquisition of Motivair to enhance liquid cooling solutions positions Schneider and its partners to “fully seize the boundless opportunities presented by AI.”

As part of the AI ecosystem sales offensive, Schneider Electric has named channel stalwart Leslie Vitrano Hubright, a perennial CRN Channel Chief honoree and CRN Power 100 Women in Channel award winner, as vice president of global IT channel ecosystem.

Vitrano Hubright, a 15-year Schneider Electric veteran who was previously director of global IT channel strategy and innovation, said the new organization is aimed at accelerating the ability for Schneider and its ecosystem partners to deliver a new era of AI solutions.

“This is Schneider Electric doubling down and investing in partners to lead the AI revolution,” said Vitrano Hubright (pictured above). “Our combined teamwork is going to bring AI in a scalable way to the channel. Everyone in the channel should be excited about this! This shows once again that we are unwavering in our channel commitment.”

The new AI and enterprise partner ecosystem organization will be critical in developing new AI integrations and capabilities, said Vitrano Hubright.

With Schneider Electric’s data center sustainability expertise, the company is uniquely positioned to help partners capture the AI opportunity with new consulting and services capabilities, said Vitrano Hulbright. “Partners are asking for this because there is an appetite from their end customers to move faster globally with AI,” she said. “These new investments are going to pay off big time for partners.”

Patrick Shelley, chief technology officer (CTO) at PKA Technologies, a Montvale, N.J.-based Schneider Electric APC partner, said he is excited about the potential for the new Schneider Electric organization to help partners capture the AI data center opportunity.

“Schneider Electric has always been partner-focused,” he said. “They are constantly innovating and easy to work with. This is just one more example of them helping their partners.”

PKA Technologies, for its part, has established its own data center modernization and optimization service, which is helping customers adapt their data centers for AI solutions. “Data centers that were built 10 to 15 years ago need to be updated for the AI era,” he said.

For one PKA customer, 100 servers with about 900 Nvidia GPUs at a colocation provider are consuming more power and cooling than 10,000 servers at two other locations, said Shelley. “We have gotten really good at helping our customers optimize and retrofit their data centers for AI and other workloads,” he said. “We are doing a data center assessment every week at this point.”

Shelley said he sees Schneider Electric’s new organization as critical in taking advantage of the big changes coming to the data center. He sees data center power and management technologies changing more in the next five years than they did in the last 30 years.

“Schneider Electric understands where the market is going and where they need to be focused,” he said. “It’s great to see them stepping up on the AI opportunity.”

“By combining simplicity with sophistication, we’ve created a solution that meets the diverse needs of modern facilities while simultaneously driving down energy usage costs through efficiency,” said Sadiq Syed, Global Senior Vice President, Digital Buildings, Schneider Electric. “SpaceLogic Touchscreen Room Controller redefines convenience and technology by delivering actionable insights and automation that enhance operational efficiency, reduce energy waste, and lower CO2 emissions. By addressing customer needs with innovative, easy-to-use technology, we are driving building decarbonization and operational excellence with an exceptional user experience.”

AI-driven HVAC optimization* capabilities in the SpaceLogic Touchscreen Room Controller facilitate users’ participation in energy-saving programs and personalized energy reduction strategies. This is the industry’s only controller that dynamically optimizes room conditions to ASHRAE 55-compliant comfort standards using AI on the edge fully embedded within the device itself, rather than in the cloud. This ensures occupant comfort is maintained in seconds and removes the extra complexity and expense of internet and cloud connections and data storage. Having AI on the edge incorporated directly in the Touchscreen Room Controller enhanced energy optimization and overall occupancy comfort, leading to a reduction in occupant complaints by up to 23%.1

“This flexible and fast-to-deploy technology is designed to help building operations enhance energy efficiency and adapt to evolving occupant expectations,” said Justin Lavoie, Vice President of Channel Development for Schneider Electric. “It’s an ideal solution for hotels and commercial offices, where operational excellence and customer satisfaction are paramount, as well as education buildings and retrofitted buildings that benefit from its wireless options.”

Other key benefits include:

Increased Energy Savings: This all-in-one, fully programmable room controller integrates seamlessly with hotels’ building management and property management systems (PMS) for an end-to-end guest room management solution. It includes sensing for temperature, humidity, and occupancy. By integrating HVAC, lighting, and blinds into a single room controller, energy savings of up to 35% can be achieved.

Optimized Energy Management: Automated Demand Response implements load shedding and pricing applications compatible with regulations for Occupant Controlled Smart Thermostats. For example, in commercial offices, facility managers will have an advanced, flexible solution that reduces energy waste while enhancing occupant comfort through intelligent temperature and environment adjustments.

Streamlined Operations: Facility managers can reduce maintenance staff hour costs by up to 25% through simple engineering tools and wireless connectivity options.

Comprehensive HVAC Support: Support of common modern HVAC applications, including rooftop units, fan coil units, and heat pumps, ensures broad applicability across different building types. With 17 input and output connection points—the most of any room controller on the market today—the controller sets a new standard for versatility.

Enhanced System Scalability: The Touchscreen Room Controller is equipped with 40% more capacity (terminals) than similar products, allowing for scalability for advanced application integration.

The SpaceLogic Touchscreen Room Controller is currently available, with additional features rolling out in 2025, ensuring continuous enhancement and additional value over time.
