Schneider Electric Reveals Revamped Data Centre White Space Portfolio for Efficient AI and High-Density Applications

• New portfolio caters to high-density applications and AI workloads, providing improved weight support, cooling capacity, and connectivity

• Enhanced features include the second generation of NetShelter SX Enclosures, NetShelter Aisle Containment, and a forthcoming significant update to the NetShelter Rack PDU Advanced

• The updated solutions meet industry demand for sustainability, speed to market, and compliance with the European Energy Efficiency Directive

Schneider Electric, the leader in the digital transformation of energy management and automation, today unveiled its revamped data centre White Space portfolio, where racks and IT equipment sit within a data centre.

This new portfolio includes the second generation of NetShelter SX Enclosures (NetShelter SX Gen2), new NetShelter Aisle Containment, and a future update to the NetShelter Rack PDU Advanced, designed to meet the evolving needs of modern data centres, particularly those handling high-density applications and AI workloads, as well as regulatory requirements like the European Energy Efficiency Directive (EED).

The NetShelter SX Gen2 enclosures are specifically engineered to support the demands of contemporary data centres. These new racks can support up to 25% more weight than previous models, handling approximately 4,000 pounds (1,814 kilograms), which is essential for accommodating the heavier, denser equipment associated with AI and high-performance computing.

Enhanced perforation in the doors increases airflow, vital for cooling high-density server configurations, and the racks offer more space and better cable management options for larger, more complex server setups. With security of physical equipment remaining an important requirement, the enclosures feature all-steel construction and 3-point-locking systems to improve data centre protection.

The NetShelter SX Gen2 racks reduce their overall climate change impact by around 3.3% per rack and are designed to be highly recyclable, with approximately 97% of the rack being recyclable. These racks are available in standard sizes of 42U, 45U, and 48U along with wide, extra-wide and deep models.

“Our NetShelter SX Gen2 enclosures are a leap forward in addressing the critical requirements of high-density applications,” said Elliott Turek, Director of Category Management, Secure Power Division, Schneider Electric. “With enhanced weight support, airflow management, and physical security, we are enabling our customers to optimise their data centre operations while also advancing sustainability.”

Advanced Cooling and Flexibility with NetShelter Aisle Containment

The latest NetShelter Aisle Containment can achieve up to 20% more cooling capacity. This is crucial for managing the heat generated by AI servers and other high-density applications. The system incorporates an air flow controller that automates fan speed, reducing fan energy consumption by up to 40% compared to traditional passive cooling systems.

The vendor neutral containment systems provide greater flexibility and speed of setup for data centre operators, allowing for easier integration and adaptation to existing builds. The new design also simplifies installation and field modifications, while reducing energy expenses by between 5 and 10%.

“Containment remains paramount in today’s high-density data centres,” said Elliott Turek. “Even in liquid cooled applications, air heat rejection plays a critical role. Our NetShelter Aisle Containment solutions not only enhance cooling capacity but also offer significant energy savings, aligning with our commitment to sustainability.”

Security and Management with NetShelter Rack PDU Advanced and Secure NMC3

The NetShelter Rack PDU Advanced with Secure NMC3 is an updated power distribution unit equipped with advanced security features and enhanced management capabilities. The Secure NMC3 network management card provides robust cybersecurity measures and enables third-party validation for firmware updates for consistent compliance. This support for mass firmware updates significantly reduces the manual effort required to keep the PDUs secure and up-to-date, which is crucial for maintaining security across large deployments.

The PDU is suitable for a range of applications, including those with power requirements up to an including 70kW per rack, making it a versatile solution for various data centre configurations. It includes features that enhance energy efficiency and operational reliability, contributing to the overall sustainability of the data centre.

“Security and efficiency are at the forefront of our advanced PDUs,” added Elliott Turek. “By integrating expended security and management features, we are ensuring that our customers can maintain secure and efficient operations with ease.”

All products in Schneider Electric’s revamped White Space portfolio are available for quotation and order (Secure NMC3 coming in Q4).

Schneider Electric purchases IRA tax credits from solar manufacturer

  • Schneider Electric has purchased clean energy tax credits from solar photovoltaic module manufacturer Silfab Solar, with sustainable finance tech company Crux facilitating the transaction, the companies announced Thursday.
  • The purchase was made through the Schneider Electric Sustainability Business, exchanging Silfab’s 45X advanced manufacturing tax credits for funding the solar panel manufacturer will use to expand North American operations.
  • The deal is made possible due to the transferability provisions included in the Inflation Reduction Act, which allows clean energy manufacturers to trade earned tax credits for cash. Hans Royal, senior director of renewable energy and carbon advisory for Schneider Electric’s sustainability services, told ESG Dive the transferability mechanism is a “revolutionary development” for the energy industry.

Schneider Electric said Crux played a “significant role in facilitating and streamlining” the transaction and credited the sustainable finance company for first connecting the energy management company with Silfab.

Schneider Electric’s president of North America Operations Aamir Paul said in the release that the company is looking to leverage the IRA’s transferability provisions to “foster the development of renewable energy infrastructure and contribute to a more sustainable planet.”

The IRA’s tax credit transferability “significantly enhances Schneider Electric’s ability to support the clean economy, reinforcing our leadership in the energy transition,” Royal said in an emailed statement to ESG Dive. “We are excited to announce multiple successful tax credit transferability transactions, showcasing the feasibility and benefits of these innovative deals.”

CEO and co-founder of Crux, Alfred Johnson, called Silfab a leader in the “booming” sector of domestic energy component manufacturing. Johnson said this represents Silfab’s first sale of 45X tax credits, which provide tax breaks for eligible products made in the U.S., such as solar modules, cells, wafers and polysilicon.

“This deal exemplifies how the transferability of tax credits is [a] win-win: providing simple, efficient access to capital to support Silfab’s expansion while allowing Schneider to make additional investments in the growth of the clean energy industry,” Johnson said in the release.

The deal follows another tax credit transfer agreement Schneider Electric inked with Engie North America in February. Schneider Electric expects the credits generated by that deal will get the company closer to its goal of utilizing 100% renewable energy in North American operations and, in turn, reduce its scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions.

Schneider Electric said its Sustainability Business is working to advise “many other corporations” on how to navigate tax credit purchasing opportunities, according to the release. Crux released a study in January that found between $7 billion and $9 billion worth of tax credit transactions took place last year and later predicted the market will reach $85 billion annually by 2031.

Schneider Electric on empowering partners in tackling new market opportunities with Dicker Data

APC by Schneider Electric has made a few strategic investments this year and is finding creative ways to get the local IT ecosystem involved in capitalising on the latest technology trends.

Schneider Electric has been investing in ongoing research and development of reference designs with NVIDIA and joint research with Tech Research Asia.

As a result of the findings, APC by Schneider Electric is offering channel industry insights in the form of a dedicated Edge AI sales playbook, empowering partners to seize early opportunities through strategic engagement and targeted questioning techniques.

“We believe technology can bridge the gap between progress and sustainability. As customers increasingly rely more on technology within their business, the need for built-in resiliency is growing,” Schneider Electric general manager of alliances, channel and operations, Astrid Groves said.

“Schneider Electric is committed to enhancing user experiences, simplifying lives, and building resilient IT operations. The power demand to support such resilient environments is growing, and customers are actively prioritising sustainability.

“We want to empower our partners with the tools and knowledge to support sustainable design practices when deploying highly resilient IT environments.”

For instance, the EcoStruxure IT platform allows customers to make the most of their IT assets through predictive maintenance minimising downtime and maximising lifecycle.

Groves said the team has also been working hard to revitalise the mySchneider IT Solution Provider program with elevated rebates, marketing funds, and an enhanced performance bonus structure to expand profitability for partners as well as providing access to lifecycle management programmes like Trade UPS.

As a Diamond sponsor Dicker Data’s Tech X this year, Groves said its ongoing sponsorship demonstrates its commitment to empowering the Australian and New Zealand IT channels with robust and integrated IT infrastructure solutions.

Dicker Data and APC have maintained a partnership for more than 35 years.

“APC delivers reliable Edge solutions that meet the evolving market needs, and we are eager to build upon and form new partnerships that will continue to further elevate the industry,” Groves said.

“Our recent collaboration with NVIDIA, for instance, saw the creation of cutting-edge data centre reference designs tailored for its accelerated computing clusters, our partnership with Dicker Data will be key in accelerating this message, and TechX is a fantastic platform to discuss these game-changing initiatives.”

Groves said the demand for AI – whether inference or actual work-loads – was growing and partners want to understand how they can support their customers through this major technological revolution.

Recent research commissioned by Schneider Electric shows that CIOs prioritise migrating AI workload models to owned data centres and edge facilities for cost, security, and modern infrastructure.

“Customers are looking beyond cloud platforms, with a need to manage their entire hybrid environments for effective AI implementation, combining data centres and edge resources,” Groves said.

“Our goal at TechX is to support and equip partners with the confidence and insights needed to engage in meaningful discussions with customers of all sizes, aligning with their AI investment priorities. ”

Groves pointed to the recent collaboration with NVIDIA that has witnessed the creation of cutting-edge data centre reference designs tailored for accelerated computing clusters.

“Our partnership with Dicker Data will be key in accelerating this message, and TechX is a fantastic platform to discuss these game-changing initiatives,” she said.

“As we are adapting to the evolving needs of our partners, we have seen the ecosystem rely on their in-house design capabilities and installation services to deliver turnkey solutions to customers.

“Our customer-first approach has been pivotal to our joint success in driving innovation and transformative solutions across all industries in the Australian and New Zealand business landscape.”

Partners play a crucial role in guiding customers to recognise the security and resilience needs of Edge AI, Groves added.

With regulatory compliance requirements looming, as well as growing energy consumption of new Edge AI deployments and associated IT environments, partners need to foster consultive partnerships to support their customers in this transformation, she said.

Looking ahead, global research indicates a projected 50 per cent shift of AI workloads to the Edge by 2028 to address latency requirements, managing costs, secure data needs, and modern infrastructure demands.

“This is why our primary focus revolves around raising awareness and educating our partners on the growing opportunity of Edge Infrastructure in AI workloads along with the responsibility to design energy-efficient and sustainable hybrid environments,” she said.

“This calls for our channel partners to evolve into strategic advisors, moving beyond transactional relationships, and utilising mechanisms of design thinking, implementation, and sustainable maintenance.”

APC focuses on sustainable IT infrastructure deployment, covering design, monitoring, maintenance, and end-of-life management.

Amid rising energy consumption and digital transformation, APC also provides access to trade-off tools allowing partners to calculate energy savings, total cost of ownership, and other crucial elements needed to make more informed decisions.

“Our EcoStruxure IT Expert also offers visibility and predictive maintenance insights, while the Trade UPS program helps partners modernise infrastructure for end users, disposing of old units ethically and sustainably, “she said. “For 40 years the APC brand has been known in the IT industry for its legendary reliability and Schneider Electric’s commitment to bring solutions that help customers create resilient IT environments stands to this day.”
