An upcoming reception fundraiser to honor the life and legacy of Greenville, South Carolina, physician Dr. Desmond E. Smith will be held on February 17, 2024, at the Hilton Garden Inn (108 Carolina Point Pkwy, Greenville, SC 20607), from 12pm-3pm.

Dr. Smith was a prominent community figure and founder of the non-profit SC Association for Preventative Medical Care Inc. He hosted numerous health and athletic clinics across South Carolina to promote healthy living, including preventative screenings.

After his death, Dr. Smith’s wife, Anita Boggs, launched the non-profit Dr. DES Preventative Healthcare Association Inc. as a way to keep his work alive. The non-profit provides tailored, one-on-one education on diet, exercise, and lifestyle with a mission of preventing, slowing, and even reversing chronic disease and inflammation in people living in underserved communities. An initial assessment and consultation is used as a way to gather information from the client and then create tailored strategies for success. He was inducted in 2021 for the 1969 championship team; was a 2022 individual inductee; and was inducted once again in 2023 as part of the 1967 championship team.
