Marini’s teaching style is borne out of his own frustration with the golf teaching industry. “I had to figure this stuff out myself,” Marini said. “Everybody knows golf lessons do not work, including the people teaching them. I do not care how famous, or how expensive the golf teacher is, they all teach the same broken lessons. And when it all goes south for the student, which it always does, the response of the golf teaching industry is ambivalence. They blame the student, citing either a lack of “golfing talent,” or willingness to “put in the work.” And they consider it a win if the student shoots somewhere close to 80 once every three years. To me, that is unacceptable. I’ve spent decades figuring out what turns ordinary humans in the parking lot into golfing superheroes on the first tee, and I can state unequivocally that it is not talent. Sure, winning takes honest hard work and dedication, but the simple act playing golf recreationally and shooting low scores does not.
