On December 19th RNXT announced the acceptance of a clinical data abstract for the 2024 Society of Interventional Radiology (SIR) Annual Scientific Meeting, held March 23-28 in Salt Lake City, Utah. The abstract will highlight the RNXT lead product candidate, RenovoGem, and the proprietary Trans-Arterial Micro-Perfusion (TAMP) therapy platform for the treatment of Locally Advanced Pancreatic Cancer (LAPC), a difficult-to-access, solid tumor cancer.

International Patent Application for Novel Targeted Combination Drug-Delivery Oncology Therapy Platform

On December 13th RNXT announced the Company has filed an international patent application under the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) for its novel Trans-Arterial Micro-Perfusion (TAMP) therapy platform. RNXT already holds a strong intellectual property portfolio with 9 issued patents and 9 pending patents for its proprietary TAMP platform and delivery system in the US, EU, and Asia. The patent portfolio covers two main areas, mechanical and biological.

The new RNXT international patent application is filed under the Patent Cooperation Treaty on methods and apparatuses that may be used to deliver one or more therapeutic agents through the vasa vasorum (small blood vessels that supply the walls of larger arteries or veins) to a target tissue. RNXT believes that these methods and apparatuses via the TAMP therapy platform may provide a novel and important pathway for the targeted delivery of therapeutic classes across DNA/RNA-altering modalities, cell therapy, oncolytic viruses, bi-specific antibodies, and monoclonal antibodies for the treatment of a variety of clinical indications. RNXT Expands Scientific Advisory Board with Michel Ducreux, M.D., Ph.D.

On November 16th RNXT announced the appointment of Michel Ducreux, M.D., Ph.D. to the Company’s Scientific Advisory Board (SAB). Dr. Ducreux is the Head of the Gastrointestinal Oncology Unit and Gastrointestinal Oncology Tumor Board at Gustave Roussy, Professor of Oncology at Paris-Saclay University in France, and Vice-Chair of ESMO GI.

Dr. Ducreux was trained in medicine, gastroenterology, and gastrointestinal tract oncology at the University of Paris Sud. Dr. Ducreux earned his master’s degree in biological sciences and Ph.D. in health sciences. He has held previous positions as assistant physician and professor of oncology at the Gastrointestinal Oncology Unit of Gustave Roussy and Paul Brousse Hospital in Villejuif, France. He was a Medical Affairs Director at Gustave Roussy from January 2011 to December 2019. He is the former Chair of the European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) Gastrointestinal Tract Cancer Group and the former Chair of the Gastrointestinal Group of the French Federation of Anticancer Centers (FNCLCC). He is a co-editor for Gastrointestinal Oncology of the European Journal of Cancer.

Third Quarter 2023 Financial Results and Operational Highlights

On November 11th RNXT announced financial results for the third quarter ended September 30, 2023.

Key Business Highlights:

Continued to advance RNXT Phase III TIGeR-PaC clinical trial for the treatment of LAPC. The first of two interim analyses was completed in March 2023, and the Data Monitoring Committee recommended a continuation of the study. The study is prespecified to provide a primary endpoint of a 6-month OS benefit and secondary endpoints including reduced adverse events versus standard of care. Additionally, Dr. Michael J. Pishvaian, Johns Hopkins Medicine and Principal Investigator of TIGeR-PaC, presented at the Global Summit on Gastrointestinal Malignancies in Bermuda. Financial Highlights for Third Quarter ended September 30, 2023:

RNXT Cash Position: Cash and cash equivalents as of September 30, 2023, were $3.2 million.

R&D Expenses: Research and development expenses were $1.6 million for the quarter ended September 30, 2023, compared to $0.8 million for the quarter ended September 30, 2022. The increase was primarily due to our ongoing Phase III clinical trial cost of $0.4 million, an increase in employee and related benefits costs of $0.3 million, and general and administrative allocated costs of $0.2 million. This increase was partially offset by a decrease in costs associated with a secondary manufacturer of $0.1 million.

G&A Expenses: General and administrative expenses were $1.3 million for the third quarter ended September 30, 2023, flat compared to the same period last year. Employee and related benefits costs increased $0.3 million compared to the same quarter last year. This increase was offset by a decrease in directors’ and officers’ insurance expenses of $0.1 million, including allocation of general and administrative expenses to research and development of $0.2 million.

Net Loss: Net loss was $1.4 million for the quarter ended September 30, 2023, compared to net loss of $2.1 million for the quarter ended September 30, 2022. The decrease is primarily due to an increase in operating expenses of $0.8 million, offset by $1.5 million reported gain on the fair value of common warrants issued under our Registered Direct Offering in April 2023.

An award-winning modernisation and Business Continuity/ Disaster Recovery Project

Schneider Electric survey reveals energy efficiency top priority in homes

Making homes more energy efficient is the most popular home improvement action according to 86% of consumers in a new survey by Schneider Electric, the leader in the digital transformation of energy management and automation. Other energy-related home improvements also ranked highly, with energy security coming second (83%), closely followed by cooling (79%) and energy independence (78%).

According to the findings of this annual survey, the impact of the recent global energy crisis on prices has prompted a surge in energy-saving behavior across households. 75% of respondents said they reduced energy use during the winter of 2022–2023, with 72% of those doing so to lower energy bills, while one third did it to reduce carbon emissions.

The survey, which polled over 9,000 consumers in Australia, France, Germany, Spain, Sweden, the United Kingdom, and the United States, also asked how consumers reduced energy use over the past 12 months. 45% said they had switched to LED light bulbs, 24% said they had begun measuring energy use at home and 16% had installed a smart thermostat.

Consumers play a key role in addressing the causes and impacts of climate change

The 2023 survey found that seven out of ten consumers recognize the importance of sustainability and addressing climate change, and 81% of respondents highlighted the importance of countries meeting national commitments. However, over half felt that the responsibility for reducing emissions lies with individuals.

While more than half (55%) of consumers consider it important to make their homes net zero in their lifetime, 40% felt this was unlikely that this would happen: a 4-percentage point increase compared to the 2021 survey. The cost of living is also the primary concern of consumers when asked about the consequences of a global temperature rise above 1.5°C, with 86% concerned about higher energy bills for heating and cooling.

Energy efficiency seen as key to tackling higher bills and climate concerns

Consumers view household energy use as a priority, with 68% seeking to reduce the amount of energy they use at home​. Interest in technology to help monitor and reduce energy consumption is high. Over 60% of those surveyed want to track their daily energy usage and 40% view smart home technology as an easy and affordable way of reducing energy bills.

Despite ongoing financial pressure, households are willing to invest significantly in energy efficiency measures, with an average spend of 1,926 euros planned in the next 12 months.

Smart and sustainable home solutions that help manage energy more efficiently are becoming popular. Consumers expressed a growing interest in smart thermostats and smart energy monitors, their popularity rising by 3 and 4 percentage points respectively compared to the 2021 survey findings.

The increased popularity of smart home solutions, such as Schneider Electric’s Home Energy Management Solutions, to automate and control energy production, storage and costs in homes, is also changing people’s perceptions about achieving net-zero. Those surveyed who already own and use smart home technology today are twice as optimistic about achieving net-zero emissions in their homes, compared to those who are yet to invest.

Quantum Mind Control: The quantum mysteries of the double-slit experiment explained, and why light changes from a wave to a particle when observed

Quantum Mind Control, by Laurence Jackson, is a fascinating explanation and visualisation of the wave/particle duality of light, written as an easy-to-read popular science book for the general public and learned academics alike. Among other topics, it uses the double-slit experiment, which ironically can seem incomprehensible to many, as one of the platforms used to show how light acts as a quantum element and travels as a wave yet gets realised as a particle.

A short video posted by Jim Al-Khalili from The Royal Institution on YouTube in 2013 demonstrates why the double-slit experiment is so perplexing.

How light transforms from a wave into a particle when observed.

When individual electrons are fired through a single slit and an electron detector is used.

The following image (fig 19), illustrates electrons passing through a single slit with a width comparable to its wavelength. The electrons travel from the gun to the slit as waves which become diffracted waves after they pass through the slit. An electron detector detects these diffracted waves, which are realised as particles. The particles then continue their journey towards the back-screen as waves, but the new waves are no longer diffracted as they haven’t passed through a slit that is comparable to their wavelength.

This shows light transforms from a wave to a particle when observed, but only while the light interacts with the environment, which is an electron detector. The light leaving the detector once again travels as waves because this is the only way light can travel.

The double slit experiment.

In the double-slit experiment (fig 20), the electrons travel from the gun to the slits as waves which allows a single electron to enter both slits simultaneously. Each seed wave generates pairs of diffracted waves formed simultaneously and are consequently identical, creating a symmetrical interference pattern.

The states of the pairs of diffracted waves are correlated or quantumly entangled, meaning they remain aware and connected to their twin regardless of distance. However, quantum entanglement ceases if one of the twins comes into contact or is influenced by environmental factors. If this happens, they decohere and transition from being explained by quantum mechanics to being explained by classical mechanics. The correlation between the waves was broken in these experiments because the electron detector was the environmental factor that influenced and decohered the entangled waves coming from the left-hand slit. When diffracted waves from the left-hand slit get detected, they transform into particles and then continue their journey as waves, but the waves are no longer diffracted and cease to interact or create interference patterns with the waves from the right-hand slit.

Lights’ duality is shown with a prism.

Yet it’s not just the double-slit experiment that shows when light acts as either a wave or a particle. Lights’ wave/particle duality can be explained using a prism, where light bends as it passes from one medium to another, with the amount of refraction occurring being dependent on the wavelength of the light. This behaviour is consistent with the wave nature of light, as waves of different wavelengths bend at different angles. Light entering the prism travels as waves, and to capture the rainbow of colour that exits the prism, we need to detect the light waves. Detecting the rainbow of light waves is achieved by using a piece of paper that forces the waves to interact with the environment, where they briefly become particles and are realised as pinpoints of localised light on the paper.

It is reported that the project includes the process equipment with an annual output of 300,000 tons of soda ash and 300,000 tons of calcium chloride and supporting public and auxiliary projects. The overall equipment, materials, and construction methods all adopt China standards, among which Hangxiao undertakes the main part of its steel structure project such as the steel structure workshop.

World Economic Forum recognizes Schneider Electric’s Hyderabad factory as a Sustainability Lighthouse

Schneider Electric, the leader in the digital transformation of energy management and automation, today announced that its Hyderabad, India, factory has been recognized by the World Economic Forum as a Sustainability Lighthouse.

This is the third such recognition for Schneider Electric, whose factories in Lexington, Kentucky, and Le Vaudreuil factory, France, received Sustainability Lighthouse status in 2021 and 2022, respectively.

The World Economic Forum began the Global Lighthouse Network initiative in 2018 to recognize manufacturers leading growth of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR). The network now consists of more than 150 Advanced Lighthouses worldwide. Just 17 of these are also Sustainability Lighthouses which are recognized by the Forum for their technology-enabled improvements on environmental footprint. Together, these serve to showcase best practices of how companies can leverage 4IR solutions to unlock new levels of sustainability and efficiency in their operations.

Schneider Electric’s Hyderabad factory manufactures mission-critical electrical equipment and operates with an advanced, cloud-based manufacturing system powered by IoT-enabled devices, leveraging real- time data and predictive analytics for smart decision-making processes. Over four years, the plant reduced its energy consumption by 59%, improved waste optimization by 64%, decreased CO2 emissions by 61%, and reduced water consumption by 57%.

To improve energy efficiency and thereby reduce CO2 emissions, the Hyderabad team focused on the highest energy consumers in the plant: air compressors and chillers. An IoT-enabled device, Equalizer 4.0, was installed to regulate the compressors thereby improving their efficiency. To the chillers, a data-driven energy management system with closed-loop control was fitted to constantly monitor and adjust energy consumption in real-time, optimizing energy efficiency.

Digitalization is creating new technology jobs in industries, new Schneider Electric report shows

Schneider Electric, the leader in the digital transformation of energy management and automation, has revealed that almost half (45%) of industrial companies believe digitalization will be the primary reason that new operational technology (OT) job roles will be created in the next three years.

The research, commissioned by Schneider Electric and carried out by global research leader Omdia, polled 407 industrial companies ranging from small and medium enterprises to large companies across western Europe (UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Denmark and Sweden), the US, China, India, and Southeast Asia (Vietnam, Thailand and the Philippines). The study highlighted the scale of the global industrial skills crisis, with talent acquisition a key challenge for more than half of those surveyed (52%).

However, it also identified the cure for this problem. Alongside job creation, over two-thirds (70%) of those surveyed agree that digitalization will help to tackle talent shortages, highlighting the potential of digital tools to deliver more than just productivity and efficiency.

While the skills crisis rages, the industrial workplace is undergoing rapid change. Sustainability goals and advanced technologies, such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) and digital twins, are becoming further integrated into the workforce. The research found that 45% and 47% respectively believe that the increasing requirements of industrial companies to meet environmental and social sustainability goals will require a significant extension of existing job roles in the plant.

“Digitalization doesn’t just benefit productivity and overall efficiency. It’s vital for solving some of the people-centric challenges facing industrial businesses,” said Ali Haj Fraj, Senior Vice President, Digital Factory, Industrial Automation at Schneider Electric. “There’s a real opportunity for industrial enterprises to optimize and enhance OT roles. By reducing the time spent on administrative tasks and enabling people to better fulfil their potential, we can solve many of the key challenges facing these businesses and help build a more sustainable future.”

The future of work in operational roles

The survey found that over half of respondents (52%) consider talent acquisition and retention to be a challenge, but one that can be overcome, showing that a level of optimism is shared among industrial businesses around overcoming workforce challenges.

Three in five (60%) believe OT roles will change in the next three years, either moderately (41%) or significantly (19%). Furthermore, a large majority (73%) agree that digitalization will substantially change the nature of work in the next three years. Three in ten (31%) consider quality-control roles to be most significantly augmented or enhanced by digitalization.

The survey also found that in the next three years industrial companies expect new skills will be required in areas like robotics programming and integration (49% of the respondents say they have no or insufficient skills in this area) and data processing, visualization, and analytics (on average more than 30% have no or insufficient skills in these areas). While respondents say they are prioritizing investment in data processing, visualization, and analytics, robotics programming and integration is indicated as only a medium priority for almost half of those surveyed. A key recommendation from the research is thus for industrial companies to work with partners across the industrial ecosystem who can help meet technology skills deficits with solutions, training, and other capabilities to prepare their workforce for the future.  

“The changing nature of the industrial workforce is, and will increasingly, necessitate investment in digitalization to empower staff and improve productivity and efficiency,” said Alex West, Senior Principal Analyst, Industrial IoT and Sustainability at Omdia. “If they don’t, the broader and more serious longer-term impact will be on innovation and an inability to mitigate talent shortages.”
