The mood was right. Dozens of Jasmine-scented candles were lit and flickering throughout the room of vaulted ceilings. Linen curtains billowed in the breeze as the gentle wind crept through the open bay window. A quiet whistle accompanied the light gusts of air. African incense sticks burned at all four corners; the fragrance was Egyptian Musk. The delicate touch of dozens of rose petals beneath our feet added a tender feeling to the mood. White satin sheets lay nearby looking soft as butter; they were untouched, but that was about to change.
Babyface’s Every Time I Close My Eyes played in the background. Those first two lines of the song captured the moment: “Girl, it’s been a long, long time comin’. But I, I know it’s been worth the wait.” It had been two years since my fiancé, Liv, and I first met. We had decided to wait. She grew up Catholic. I grew up Baptist. Our religious principles had tugged upon our conscience for oh too long. We couldn’t hold back any longer. Our desire to satisfy one another’s needs and to likewise be pleased had taken hold.
