Crowd WallStreet Inc. Becomes the Third Black-Owned SEC-Regulated Equity Crowdfunding Portal in the United States

Crowd WallStreet Inc., the first Black-owned crowdfunding platform to launch in the State of Wisconsin just became the third Black- owned SEC-regulated equity crowd- funding portal in the United States.

The company was formed in 2020 by Miami natives, Tavaris L. Williams and Jamsky French.

A month earlier, the pair had met on Linkedin and discovered they were from the same neighborhood in Miami. Soon after that, they learned they had a lot more in common. Both gentlemen worked in the financial industry and shared a burning passion for helping Black and other minority entrepreneurs gain access to capital. Their desire to change the trajectory for Black founders developed into Crowd WallStreet.

Although funding for Black Startups has increased since the atrocious murder of George Floyd, Black entrepreneurs still only receive about 1.2 percent of the $147 billion invested in US companies by venture capitalists.

“Our mission is to build collaborative ecosystems and access that removes structural barriers. We aim to educate our community about crowdfunding. Crowdfunding can be utilized for so many things. It can help startups fund their businesses, help nonprofits fund community projects, fund real estate investments, and more” states Mr. Williams.

In May 2012, The JOBS Act was passed by President Obama making it easier for entrepreneurs across the nation to raise money online from family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, and more using crowdfunding. However, as of March 2021, that act was amended and the rules were expanded. Now entrepreneurs can raise even more money than before.

Last year $17 billion was generated from crowdfunding in the US. The crowdfunding market is projected to explode up to $300 billion by 2030. “We want to help our community cash in on crowdfunding. We want to help them raise capital and at the same time help them to invest in early-stage companies before they go public. Crowd WallStreet is for everyone. We aim to bring the crowd to WallStreet,” says Mr. French.
