“Fireworks Co., Ltd.” (Headquarters: Toyonaka City, Osaka Prefecture, Representative Director: Yoshihiro Komori) announces the Kickstarter campaign for DIGI SWAP, an Adapter plus iOS App that allows you to easily turn a film camera into a digital camera using your iPhone.  The Kickstarter campaign launched on April 11, 2022 and will continue until May 26, 2022.

“One day, I took a picture through the viewfinder of a Hasselblad film camera with my iPhone. The photo came out remarkably well and I thought I can use all my film camera gear that was collecting dust if I can find a way to combine these analog and digital devices, which led to the development of DIGI SWAP,” explained Yoshihiro Komori, Owner of Fireworks Co. Ltd.

DIGI SWAP is made up of 2 parts.  First is the Adapter which connects to the film camera and has a holder to attach your iPhone.  The second is the dedicated iOS App that replaces the role of film.  You can use the mechanical functions and original optics of the film camera to capture film style photos and videos direct to digital.  One of the great outcomes of this is that your photos and videos are saved on your iPhone making it easy to post and share immediately.

“DIGI SWAP is by no means a substitute for film. This product was created to expand the use of film cameras for everyone,” Mr. Komori said.  Nowadays you do not have to adjust the aperture, shutter speed, sensitivity, or even consider what optical gear to use for a beautiful shot.  Anyone can take beautiful pictures with the touch of a button.  With DIGI SWAP people can create the photos and videos they envision be it beautiful, artistic, out of focus, rustic, there are so many possibilities.

The DIGI SWAP Adapter connects to the film camera by removing the film camera back cover and attaching DIGI SWAP with the components included in the packaging.  The iOS App’s capabilities when working with the film camera’s mechanical functions include:

Shutter speed 1/2 second ~ Synchronous (not perfect tuning because the shutter structure of the iPhone and a film camera is different)Sensitivity 40 ~ 2700 (depending on the iPhone model)FPS settings 2 to 60 (depending on the iPhone model)Color / black and white (selectable only when shooting still images)

The DIGI SWAP Adapter will retail for $235 per unit, but on Kickstarter it is available for $192.62.  The Application is $48.99.  There is a special Mount for Leica M2 and M3 cameras which will retail for $74.99, but during the Kickstarter campaign the price is reduced to $65.49.

A current list of compatible cameras and iPhones are available on the Kickstarter campaign page.

This product is patented in Japan and is filed under the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT)

About Fireworks Co., Ltd

Photo and camera store, Sun Studio, was founded in 1979 in Shiga Prefecture.  This is the predecessor of Fireworks Co., Ltd.  In 2009 Fireworks switched to the development and printing of silver halide photographs, but over time this market has shrunk due to a drop in print demand caused by the shift from film to digital cameras and smartphones.  Even though print demand has shrunk over time, Fireworks wants to bring back the use of film cameras to take film style photos, which is why DIGI SWAP was born.
