Sean and Lex are two kids who—just like every other child—avoid doing chores or their homework. However, they are concerned about a strange “phenomenon” occurring everywhere around the world—the Mombie Apocalypse.
Their friends’ mom become “mombies” and then make their kids do all kinds of chores and homework. For example, Hannah’s mom turns into a mombie and makes broccoli and Brussel sprouts for dinner. She then makes Hannah finish her dinner.
Another classmate, Dave’s mother turns into a mombie and only lets him wear itchy sweaters that are knitted by his grandmother.
When their own mom starts becoming a mombie, the siblings hatch a quick plan to “save” their mom from the clutches of the mombie epidemic.
Merz was inspired by her own life as a mother and how her kids—Sean and Alexa—have never let her become a “mombie.”
“My monsters are the inspiration for this book, and they are the ones who came up with idea – I just ran with it. They do help with making sure I don’t turn into a ‘mombie’ on a regular basis, that’s for sure.”,” commented Merz, talking about what inspired her to write the book and how she hopes kids around the world find it relatable.
Merz’s previous book, “Dark” has been mentioned by the Reader’s Favorite Awards for being exceptionally well-written, and Merz was named “The Storyteller to go to”.
