The Future of Affordable, Eco-Friendly Driving: Exploring the Benefits of Solectric Cars

If you thought that cost effective solectric cars were the stuff of sci-fi films and fantasies, think again.  Solectric cars are being developed right now and could be a regular sight on our roads in the next few years.  Integrated car solar panels can harness the suns power to provide enough energy to power these cars and the suns power is totally free, saving consumers thousands in the long term.

Lets look at what is out there already:

Aptera – prices start at $33,200 The Aptera is the first solectric vehicle that can require no charging for most daily use.  They claim they have developed the words most efficient vehicle that can go five times farther than other electric vehicles.  With their continuously charging technology you eliminate the worry of finding charging stations.  Aptera’s unique diamond shaped solar panels maximize the energy you get from the sun.  This gives fully equipped vehicles 700 watts of continuous charging power – whether you’re driving or parked.

Sono Sion – prices start at $25,000 The Soni Sion is an affordable shareable everyday solectric car.  456 half cells seamlessly integrated into the body of the car can add 122km on average (up to 245km) per week, of driving range to the car’s battery through the power of the sun.  The Sion is also more than just a car, it is also its own home storage system.  Their bidirectional wallbox enables the Sion to become a sustainable power plant for the home.  What’s so special about it?  You are able to self-sufficiently supply your home with energy for up to five days at a significantly lower price than other providers.

Lightyear 2 – prices start at $40,000 Lightyear 2 is a solectric car with an integrated layer of solar cells to extend your journeys.  You could drive over 800 kilometers before your next plug charge.  For short and medium trips, Lightyear 2 could even sustain itself without a socket in sight.  Picture that, being untied from the electricity grid and running on free, clean solar power alone.  Power your car with free, clean energy.  The Lightyear 2 solectric car is not due to hit our roads until 2025.

Exciting times ahead for us as consumers, particularly in these difficult times where we are all looking for ways to cut costs.  Solectric vehicles are a large step towards a cleaner environment whilst cutting costs for the average consumer and I’m sure we will see many more solectric cars released in the near future too!
