Stockbridge, GA – February 20, 2024 – The Pretty Pops Kids’ I AM Black History Awards Brunch, set to take place on February 24, 2024, will be a vibrant celebration recognizing outstanding youth from the Henry & Clayton Counties (GA) who have excelled in academics, the arts, and community involvement.

This event is not just a brunch; it’s a momentous occasion where exceptional young individuals will be honored for their achievements and contributions to academics, the arts, and community service. The awards aim to spotlight their dedication and inspire others in our community.

Dr. Andrea Carter, EdD

Dr. Carter, a retired elementary school teacher, has established two charter schools for at-risk youth and founded a school in Nigeria. Beyond the classroom, she has extended her skills to reach children globally by sharing her writing and learning tools, aiding disenfranchised and marginalized students in achieving success. Driven by a vision of leaving a lasting educational legacy, she is committed to imparting knowledge and essential skills to empower individuals for success. Antwan Aiken

Antwan Aiken, the Owner of Eggs Up Grill, a breakfast, brunch and lunch restaurant in Morrow, Georgia, joins us as a sponsor. Additionally, Antwan is the Owner of two Subway Restaurants in Southwest Atlanta and he is the CEO/Co-Founder of The Aiken Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit public charity organization. Beyond his entrepreneurial endeavors, Antwan is a Licensed Psychotherapist and adjunct Professor at Clayton State University & Kennesaw State University.

Master of Ceremony – Shana Thornton

The Mistress of the Ceremony for this grand event is the award-winning journalist and PR professional Shana Thornton. Her popular radio and podcast program titled Let’s Talk America with Host Shana Thornton has received rave reviews on groundbreaking news content. Through her platform, Shana encourages the discovery of viable solutions to many issues affecting the international community. As executive producer and lead on-air talent, she presents the relevant top trending news stories. The international talk radio program has received several awards, including the WE DAY Excellency In Journalism Award.  As an awarding winning journalist, she manages public and media relations for the City of Stockbridge and all City elected officials.  Shana brings her expertise and charisma to the stage, ensuring an engaging and memorable experience for all attendees.
