Escondido, CA – With energy costs on the rise, an older or inefficient heating and cooling system could be costing homeowners hundreds or even thousands of dollars in unnecessary expenses every year.

Alex Kuhtarev, V.P. of Excel Services CA Inc. says, “Maintaining or repairing an old unit instead of replacing it can end up costing the homeowner thousands more in the long run.”

From additional or more frequent repairs to an inefficient system that runs constantly, these costs can quickly add up.

As costs are going up, the comfort of the homeowners is also going down with uneven temperatures throughout the home and the inability of the system to “keep up” on the more extreme weather days. With unprecedented humidity levels on the rise in southern California, Excel Services CA has to change the traditional way of designing A/C Systems to achieve ultimate comfort and save more money for their Clients.

Kuhtarev says, “We are seeing almost every day how this perfect storm of older or inefficient systems, more extreme weather patterns, plus rising energy costs are negatively affecting both the quality of life and the wallets of our customers.”

Thankfully, the newest technology that is now available can greatly improve both the costs and the experience of the homeowner. The best part? The change they see in their comfort level and their monthly billing is almost immediate!

When a homeowner is concerned about their aging system, and not sure if they should repair or replace, Excel Services CA does a full inspection and then presents the homeowner with their findings. Their customer-oriented staff then clearly explains all of the available options and answers all their questions so that the homeowner can make the best choice for their home investment.

“Many homeowners also have additional questions about solar energy, HVAC equipment, Indoor Air Quality products, and other emerging technologies for which our team is licensed and up to date on, so we can offer those additional insights,” says Kuhtarev.

Other aspects of a home system that are not always top-of-mind but can make a huge difference to the overall costs, comfort and safety of the home environment include indoor air quality control with air scrubbers, HEPA filters, and even dehumidifiers.

As far as additional money and energy saving tips go, Kuhtarev says there are six commonly overlooked actions that can save a homeowner thousands of dollars in energy, maintenance, and repair expenses.

  1. Regularly replace filters – Depending on usage, Kuhtarev says they should be replaced every 45-90 days for maximum efficiency.
  2. Invest in a Programmable Thermostat – Modern systems that offer advanced programming and the ability to control remotely offer the highest savings and convenience.
  3. Use ceiling fans for additional air circulation – Having multi-directional fans for seasonal heating or cooling is the best option.
  4. Use a properly sized A/C system with a variable speed blower to keep down the humidity – Humid air can make it feel warmer and stickier than the actual temperature and can contribute to other issues, like mold, in the home.
  5. Do not close the vents in any unused rooms – most of the homes in southern California have duct systems already undersized. By closing vents, your furnace blower will work harder to push air in a restricted duct system causing higher power consumption and it will cause premature equipment failure.
  6. Schedule an annual HVAC check-up – Regular inspection and maintenance can save big bucks on costly repairs when issues are discovered at earlier stages.

“Making these areas a priority will positively impact the costs and comfort of the home. Helping homeowners lower their energy costs while maximizing comfort is our ongoing priority here at Excel Services CA.”
